Finally found the tone I've been hearing in my head. Fat, articulate, clear and unlike any other guitar I've heard before. Problem is I don't know who the guitarist is or the gear used.

Here's a clip - solo from Disney's Hercules OST.

I want a schroeder that sounds just like that!

I'm sure Jason can direct you better with regards to tone but I think quite often distorted tones can be difficult to pin down. There are huge variations between amps and over 50% of that type of tone can be attributed to the particular amp/amp settings used. As such, it may be difficult to say that X guitar or a combination of XYZ woods/pickups will give a definate tone.

I was at a few musicals/shows in london over a weekend a while ago and heard some killer fat articulate lead work and thought it must be a crazy boutique guitar the guy was using, turned out to be a stock JEM in 2 of the 3 cases, just a well eq'd amp and some killer licks.

All the best in the search

yeah I agree with t...that clip dosen't sound like anything $$$ or boutique...could be ? but I've came acrossed that tone many times and it's even been as much as running a jackson through some rack gear into a tube preamp to warm it up

I don't think I could add anything more to Turlough and Tommy's comments. I think it is very hard to determine what is contributing to tone when it is fairly processed like that clip. Shoot me an email if you want to talk more about tone.

Be careful almond, hang around here too long and youre sure to catch the bug!

In all seriousness though if you fancy checking out a few similar tones you could do a lot worse than having some fun with a humbucker equipped guitar through a POD to get an idea of amp model preferences etc.

Haha already caught the bug =p Well you wouldn't have any idea how long I've spent tweaking around with my effects. I'm using a PRS cu22 through a digitech GNX3000 multi efx and it always sounds sterile.

If you like the modeling stuff then I would definitely check out the POD XT Pro (rack mount) or the POD XT Live...some real nice modeling that is pretty damn convincing if you enjoy tweaking and turning knobs...lots of guys here use the Live and I have a Pro I use in the studio :D

If you're a bedroom noodler I'd also totally advise to chect out the pocket pod, its the best inexpensive piece of kit I've bought in a very long time. Its great for a noodle through headphones sitting in the living room without annoying the neighbours (or the wife).
