Hey gang,

I know there are some here that use line6 gear (and some that are likely opposed to it). I just grabbed a pod x3 live floor unit, one of the new generation POD models. I previously used a pod XT.

Here's what I like:
- dual-tone thing is wild- you can get some really thick, full sounding tones. Almost sounds double-tracked. You can set up two completely independent amp/cab/effect patches, and blend them together. Or have one in the right channel, the other in the left.
- Footpedal can gently transition from one tone to another, from a quieter rhythm tone to a lead tone, or whatever
- pedal is way sturdier, and easier to turn on wah/tweak
- each user location can store TWO patches, saves a lot of pedal dancing as you can now access 8 tones per bank, rather than 4 in the a/b/c/d slots
- tons of presets- you still have your 32 banks, but you have 300 presets you can fill them with. The XTL just had the 32 banks with the presets loaded, and if you tweaked em they stayed tweaked. So here you have a read-only batch of 300 you can save as you want.
- tons more amps/cabs/effects etc, more than the XT, which had more than I knew what to do with...
- XLR balanced output, no direct box needed if you plug direct (which i do- this is huge for me)
- metal footswitches instead of the plastic ones.
- backlit knob labels (will great at gig's when lights are dim)
- "Boost" footswitch to add a few db of gain for small parts you need to punch thru the mix.
- Huge screen, makes it a bit easier editing/navigation thru menus.

One other cool thing- you can have 2 inputs go thru 2 different channels, routed to 2 separate outputs. So, another guitarists acoustic can have its own dedicated patch/EQ/etc, and its own output for mixing at the board. Or, a vocal XLR input (it comes preloaded with tons of acoustic, bass, and vocal presets too).

Bad thing so far is no computer editing/arranging of patches.. Not till January with a software update. Not compatible yet with guitarport online.

My 0.02, this thing rocks. Worth ebay'in your current POD in my opinion! Thats where mine's goin!

Hey Bill
I read about the X3 and really dig what I have seen. Great feature that if a freind comes over you can both run independantly to two seperate amps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this unit also have an effects loop? If you can run the 4 cable method, I think that's a huge plus for this unit.

I also want to try the Bogner\Line 6 amp.

Hey Bill
Even though it has a loop, can you break the chain to send some effects before the pre-amp amp and some after in the amps loop (4 cable method)? The Zoom has a loop but doesn't give you the flexability with the chain.

Stu,

Not sure if it can do a true 4 cable, if so it would take some tinkering to figure out. It has one send/return pair which is fully assignable either pre or post, on a per patch basis. Might be able to do both if using the second guitar input, I'd have to play a bit to figure it out.

I'll check on the Line 6 boards. I'm sure they know.

Come to think of it, since the unit has two fully rigs, I guess you can just do a "3 cable method". Use rig one for all your pre-amps stuff (distortion, compression, etc) and rig two would go into the amp loop for delay, reveb, etc. Makes sence?
