Hi Mr. Schroeder,
I exchanged IMs with you over a year ago about a V type guitar.
Now,I have some questions as to maybe your thoughts and ideas.
And I'll lay out what I was thinking.Well,Im easy to please and I would enjoy any guitar you hand crafted. For me.
Anyways, I have always lusted after a 71 Gibson V2. I seen one a few years ago and came back with the $2200 and it was gone. :-( I'm over chasing them because they are out of reach and Im sure I can get what I want made for me. I came across an 80s band who a few guys told me the main man was yielding a Schroeder. That's when I searched and found you. But I think There is another Schroeder in Chicago who also is a luth. I asked you and you never heard of the V so I guess it was the other guy, haha,I'm sold on your work and your attention to detail and pleasing the costomer.
My questions aren't short ones. I was reading about the 70s Vs and some were multiply and some were solid bodys. Where would we start?
And some were neck through and some were set necks.(Basically 2 wings glued on an extended neck) What would we need?
I also can't stand maple tops, not that that would ever work on a V anyways but it is pretty,I just cant stand the poppy slapback sound it gives on necks or bodies.
So we have all mohogany so far haha.
And I invisioned your headstock on a nice natural finish v type guitar and I think it goes well.
Would you just have to design the whole thing?
Maybe uneven wings?
Or maybe sharper wings?

I got the idea from An 80's band called Macabre. I seen him with a handmade V.
Whats the nicest guitar in the world? The one you have made for you! HAHA!

I definately dig the stainless fretts you offer. I was thinking Schallers and a stopbar.
Any interresting thoughts anyone can throw out there?
Thanks and I'll look forward to your thoughts and Ideas.

Hey Jerryboy
It may have been Tim Schroeder in Chicago. It wasn't me. I have always wanted to do a V and an Explorer though. Shoot me an email and we can talk about it!

All Mahogany V sounds like a sweet thing although I'd put a flame top on it :)

Im still torn between a speed V like the RR V OR a good repro of the 58 Gibby V. I have a 80s Gibby V and its a bit cumbersome. It's heavy, way off balance and has a hogleg neck. I dont like the tonal qualities of maple.(Im hated the world over for that remark)lol. With all things equal,It absorbs the tones I like to reflect and pushes the tones I hate. This last summer I cut wood with my dad. We went into woods of downed trees. We happened upon a lot of Maple trees that were of nice size. My dad refused to even go near them.I asked him why he wouldnt cut this wood so near the wagon. He said maple for firewood is worthless. I asked him which maple was considered worthless. He said all of it.
Now before I get attacked,He said it wouldnt burn right, even when cured for years, and when it does burn,it leaves a resin much too heavy to deal with.
I think maple is pretty to look at,but Not on my guitars.LOL But I did come across several a strip of fallen walnut and black walnut, and my dad said it was worthless too.LOL Now korina, is pretty worthless IMHO HAHA Im no wood expert, neither is my dad. But Id like to hearsome opinions on wood, and mixing tops with backsides of bodies/necks. Any good words? jerry
