View Full Version : Electronics upgrade kits?
First post here! As a new owner of my first Schroeder, (the "Roberto" Redwood DC), and being an awful tinker-er, I was wondering if anyone has done an RS Kit upgrade to their Schroeder? I'm actually looking at Jim's kit from WCR, seeing as the DC has his Goodwoods installed, (and you gotta love Jim)! I've put RS Kits in every bucker axe I've owned and I really love the taper of those pots. Really extends the range of use of the volume pot for me.
I'm assuming that Jason uses short shaft pots, but a confirmation would be great.
Did my first show with the guitar on Saturday and it's truly a beautiful thing! Plays like a dream and sounds even better! I love the Go(o)dwoods in there. Excellent choice of pups, Jason! The stock electronics sound great and work just fine, but I guess I'm used to having that full range taper, so I'm looking for info from others who may have done this upgrade.
Thanks!

Congrats on your first Schroeder ! Nice to hear it's already been gigged as well :)
The Schroeder Jason just built me for the Keeley Demo DVD has an RS kit in it...it's at the Keeley shop right now so I won't have a full report for another week or so but it's got 3 Keeley Singlecoils in it and it sounds amazing but I'm not sure what the taper is on the pots.
Here is a link to the Jason's youtube page where you can find videos of the guitar

Glad you are digging the guitar!
Thanks Pai....hope you're enjoying your new toys too!
An update to this thread:
I installed Jim's vintage upgrade kit and am pretty pleased with it. The difference between the stock setup and the new one was not huge in this case. Much bigger difference when I installed a kit in my old Hamer, but I guess it reflects well on Jason's stock electronics.
It also gave me a chance to open the guitar up and find out that one of the previous owners had apparently done a little experimenting with rewiring and had made a few mistakes that really impacted the tone of the guitar in a negative way. With a little help from Jason and Jim at WCR, I now have it wired correctly and I have to say it is the most amazing instrument I have ever played, (let alone owned).
Even my wife, who is a true fan of Fender single coil tones, (she has always preferred my Kinman equipped Tele to any other guitar I've owned), had to admit at my last show that the DC is the best I've ever sounded...and I agree wholeheartedly! It is such a joy to play...and now is, by far, the best sounding and most versatile instrument I've ever had in over 40 years of playing.
Doesn't hurt that it's also a work of art and elicits ooh's and ahhhh's every time I pull it from the case at a show!
Thanks for all of your help Jason and Elizabeth...and happy holidays to all of you!
