Luke's '59 Singlecut will feature this beautiful piece of Flamed Eastern Maple:

You can see the flame a little better in these photos:

Hey Luke, what are the rest of your specs for the build? Nice figure on the maple by the way.

I'm going to go out on a limb saying that they are '59 specs ?

Oh my god I'm almost embarrassed to be this late on my own build thread! Gah! Between a nice vacation in Paris, the hectic weeks after, I totally forgot about Liz's email on this thread!

Thanks guys, yeah it's a great top, you won't believe how much trouble I put Liz through to take me pictures from every imaginable angle, before I decided on this one. And yes it will be classic 59 specs but with jumbo frets and JZS stoptail as the main differences, requested Jason/Liz to save this serial # slot for me just for kicks. But just to set the record straight, I'm #54 in build sequence! Hahaha...

Will be taking lots of cues from Rob's Singlecut, except mine will have a Honduran neck. But I might be convinced to go to a full rosewood neck if it doesn't alter the tone too much. Still trying to decide on what inlays should be. Ideas? I was thinking trapezoids like the original/Rob's, but with "hollowed out" insides, sorta like the new PRS birds. Actually haven't spent much time thinking about the colour, but with the streaky bits I might be inclined to go with a classic colour, like washed cherry burst? Cherry burst is kinda my favourite colour for singlecuts.

Pickups and switching-wise I'm totally open, am thinking of adding push-pulls for coil splits for the tonal variety, but lots of time to mull that over. Anyway, if you have ideas, just shout!

Not sure if you've ever played rosewood necks but the nice thing about them is that they are super smooth!!
As far as altering the tone, I think it does it in a good way! My general sense is that it is a bit warmer then mahogany, mahogany giving you a little more sharpness and bite.

Looks like this is going to be another great one, I'll be watching with interest.

Rosewood necks are amazing, but if you want it to sound like a traditional Les Paul type it will alter the tone. It depends what you fancy really but I'm sure either way it will be amazing.

yeah it's tough to call this a '59 and alter much...if you want that LP sound then you have to go with Mahogany neck and body :)

Thanks guys, for the feedback. It's gonna be the '59 for me, so I guess I'll pass on the rosewood neck. I always preferred a bit of brightness in the tone anyway. Perhaps on Schroeder #2... :)

Any suggestions on fretboard inlays? The fretboard is going to be maple bound.

It's gonna be the '59 for me, so I guess I'll pass on the rosewood neck. Well if you want the hand feel of rosewood make sure to ask J about putting a Satin finish on your neck. He put one on my Schroeder and it's just a smooth as any Rosewood neck'd guitar that I've had.

Inlays...that's such a hard / personal choice that I'm not sure what to say.
