I seriously cannot get over how beautiful that guitar is, I think Jason has outdone himself on that one!
I was looking at the pictures, and I noticed it has a wooden nut. I remember Jason mentioning that the guitar seems to have a bit less sustain than a stop tail, and attributed it to the wooden stop tail. But couldn't that be also because of the nut?
I'm a bit curious about this because I was thinking of having that gorgeous wooden stoptail on my build, but I'm worried about the less sustain and the warmer tone.
And what is that nut/binding material?
Any thoughts?

Hey there, I believe the nut is Snakewood. The lack of sustain would most likely be attributed the floating jazz type bridge. Although the wooden nut may have an influence somewhat. The bridge would account for the sustain issue i think.

You could go with a tailpiece like the Lindsay has where there is a stop bar beneath the tailpiece and pick up some sustain that way. Very similar in look.

Yeah... I think I might go that route, or just the usual TOM bridge with a stopbar and forego the wooen tailpiece.
Sustain is very key to the way I play... I like to hang on to notes and vibrato quite a bit, so I don't have to play so much! Hahahaha!!!

You are right on with regard to the tailpiece, Theon. I think the nut has very little to do with the sustain though. Especially with a nut made of snakewood which, as you know, is a very hard wood. But the nut really has a nominal impact on sustain especially when fretting notes.
As for the tailpiece of the stopbar. Could definitely work. The purpose behind that on Lindsey's Turner guitars is to have a Tune-o-matic type bridge but to also be able to easily access the battery for the pre-amp. I took the opportunity to hide not only the battery, but also I buried the pre-amp level knob in that cavity.
