Thank you E,
I want to say that Elizabeth and Jason are some fantastic folks. Some of the finest people I have ever met, and they deserve every bit of credit and success they have gotten thus far. And this is just the beginning. I believe JZS is the next Paul Reed Smith. I consider it a privilege to join the Schroeder family.
Here are the specs to my new guitar......
22 frets
Bridge pickup forward approx 1/4"
Schroeder stop tail
Hum/Hum. No single coil sounds
3 way toggle
All nickel hardware
Oversize strap buttons
Ebony Fretboard
Limba back
Brazilian rosewood neck
1 piece crazy figured maple top
Red Maple Kite inlay on back of neck/headstock (Mrs V asked for this option)
Sperzel locking tuners
Stainless Steel frets
Mother of Pearl S inlays
Abalone S headstock and 12th fret inlays
White side neck fret markers (I'm particularly excited about this)
BG Smokestack pickups w/nickel covers
Compensated nut placement
Ebony knobs
Curt Mangan Nickel Strings 9-42
Color: RED. I told Jason, "The next time you are sitting at a stop light, that is how red I want this guitar".
The best option of all, hand made by Jason himself.
I'm gonna work this guitar hard. Real hard. It will go with me everywhere. So I wanted the best of the best. That is why I chose a Schroeder. I consider the "tour guitar" to be the best sounding guitar on the planet. I sincerely say this. It has the best sounding neck position I have ever heard. I know exactly what I want and how I want it to sound. I am in hope this new guitar will dethrone the tour guitar. I am floored by Jason's work and creations. I am confident this will be my guitar for life.

Gifted or talented does not seem to be big enough words to describe someone that can do work like this.
Liz called me today and said Jason sanded the top and they cut out the inlays and fretboard.

I'm not sure if its been said before but that is a fricking Bizarre top. Bizarre in a good way that is. That is gonna be good for hours of entertainment just staring at the top and spacing out on it ( playing it should be pretty good too!). Love watching these things coming together. Enjoy the Ride.

Looks like Jason worked on the fretboard today. Also gave me another picture of the color. This time with a sharpie marker. An known red so I could compare with it. Computer monitors are almost always wrong when it comes to red.
Please notice the tiny V-Pick in the 12th fret inlay. VERY cool. This was Jason's idea. I love it.

Awesome. Jason's great at the personal touches; for my 12th inlay he researched my last name's German origin which is "butcher" and inlaid a cleaver with aluminum blade in the Schroeder S. You can't beat that kind of stuff!! Coming along beautifully Vinni!

HAHA. YES right by the top horn upside down. Funny I looked for it when you first posted this and couldnt find it. I didn't notice it until I just looked again after the last reply.
The neck pickup on the tour guitar had the best lead tone thru my Budda Superdrive. Thick and powerful and so smooth.

The tour guitar gets sent around the world. If you are considering buying a JZS Guitar you call Jason up and set up the shipment and agreement. you get to keep it at your house for a couple of weeks. Then, before you send it to it's next destination, you sign the case.

Yes, Jason is preparing it for the booth now. It will need pore fill for the limba. The black binding will be done with spray, so there will be a bit of taping off to do. Then wetsand and buff.
We are getting there!! :)

OK, I have finally figured out some of my madness and put a couple of my thoughts and goals for this guitar into words. Here is what I am out to accomplish with this guitar, and from what I can tell, it will fit the bill quite well.
I want it to sound and sustain like my Fernandez. And I want it to have the feel, playability and looks of my PRS guitars.
I have learned a lot about guitars over the years. I have bought my last 24 fret guitar. That 1/2" difference of the neck pickup towards the middle of the string makes all the difference in the world for me. I think that moving the bridge pickup forward just a bit will take care of everything I don't like about bridge positions.
The covers on the pickups and the tone woods will render the sound I am after, I am sure. The Ebony fretboard on the tour guitar seems to clear up the tone in the lower register, even in the neck position in the lead channel. That is what I am probably most impressed about with that guitar. This guitar, in all rights, should sound and react very close to that one.

Actually... Vinni and Chris drove several hours today to get the guitar. It was pretty crazy trying to get it wrapped up by the time they got here but it was so great to be able to tweak the guitar to his taste while he was here. Thanks so much Vinni. Very unique opportunity. I wish all of you guys could do that!!!

One more to try to show the quilt. As you may know, red is a really tough color to photograph!

Jason and Liz, we had a BLAST yesterday!!! Thanks for the hospitality and for the guitar. You make the best guitars on the planet, hands down, no question.
I got up with the chickens this morning and started playing. Just could not sleep knowing the guitar was here in the building with me. Let me say this, I have never had a guitar talk to be like this before. I have owned some wonderful guitars in my life, however, I have never clicked with one like I already have with this one. I have read guys say things like that before and I always thought they were just being nerds. I got it now! This guitar plays and sounds EXACTLY like the sound in my head. My favorite tone has always been a Les Paul. Not anymore! This JZS sounds and plays better than any Lester on the books, IMO.
And those SS frets are the bomb! Vibrato is more musical than ever. And effortless. Plus the guitar is absolutely in tune. I don't think i will ever need to put a Buzz Feiten on this one. Robben Ford taught me about that product and I have put one on every one of my guitars since. I really do not see the need on this JZS.
I will report back later with a tone report after plugging it into my rig. I also have some pics taken yesterday to share.
Thanks again Jason and Liz for making my life even better than it was before!

OK, here's the tone report....
It sounds like the big fat Les Paul that we all had in the early 70's that weighed 15 lbs and sounded incredible, but we sold it because it was too heavy and now we wish we still had it. You know that sound? It's huge and singing. Every note on the neck is perfect. Not one dead spot or even weak spot. It's throaty sounding. A big husky voice. Yet, even when you put it in the neck pickup and flip into the lead channel, you can still play low notes on the E and A string without that tubby sound. It has resonant feedback in almost every position. Not the kind that hurts your ears. I'm talking about the kind that Larry Carlton uses.
As good as it is with leads, this guitar makes me want to play chords, for some reason. They are just so clear and bell like. Clean or overdriven, you can hear each note clearly, so you want to play them. More so than any other guitar I have played before. The neck is also very in tune. i don't think I will ever install a Buzz Feiten on this guitar.
I don't have any idea what kind of electronics Jason installed, but I really like the volume roll back. It does not get dark at all. Just rolls back and cleans up like it should. Very usable and gig friendly.
I'm going to go play some more. I will write later. I just can't stop playing this guitar!

Thanks Tommy. I hope all is going well for you out there on the road. We're rootin for ya Bro....
So far I like this guitar strung with 9-42 Ernie Ball. I also tried 10s and it was good, but it really comes to life with the 9s.
I am planning to start the videos with this guitar this coming week. I have been putting a lot of energy this week into our relocation to Nashville and playing me new guitar.

Jason moved the treble pickup forward about 1/4". I LOVE it there. You talk about a sweet spot! Yeah. Usually the treble pickup is just to harsh and bright for my ears. This one could not be better. Huge fat tone in that area. I don't know why more guitar makers do not do this.
We are settling back in from our trip to Nashville, so, videos should be coming soon.....

Hey Vinni, what pickups did you throw in there?

Hey Vinni, what pickups did you throw in there?
BG Pups. The Smokestacks. The very same model as the tour guitar has in it. Oh, and the pickups have nickel covers. Brian said they were not as bright sounding as the ones with the chrome covers.

Yes. I am hoping to get some videos uploaded this week. Some showing off the guitar and some selling our picks, but still using the guitar in those videos as well. I hope to do about 25 videos this summer and fall.

Jason, what kind of clear finish do you spray on these guitars?
Last night I was at a gig and my guitar took a pretty good blow on the front with an alto sax. The guy was really sorry, but what was done, was done. I looked at it this morning and expected to see a dent. NOTHING!!! It is still perfect!
This finish is pretty darn tough. Thanks again for making the best guitar in the world!

Is that hard material or soft?

Soft early on but it hardens over time. It does dent and crack much easier then poly urethane finishes.

Listen to the neck pickup on this puppy! Just amazing.
I use this guitar everywhere now. Every one of our videos features the JZS Guitar.
We are now on Lick of the Day #27. I didn't know that I could play 27 licks!

The longer I own this guitar, the better it plays and the better it sounds!
Just an incredible guitar! Check out this new video we did, and as always, I use my #1. Take note how little gain I am using nowadays. The longer I play this guitar, the lower the gain/distortion goes on the amp. I have NEVER had a guitar sound like this one!

Every time someone new sees it they say "What is THAT?" LOL
I would like to own a JS Chopper down the road sometime. I love the Bi-Wood on the front of the site. That guitar is just amazing! I think I would set mine up with some P90s.

Nowadays, when people ask me how many guitars I own, I say "one". The Schroeder makes me forget everything else I have. I really rarely play anything else. I can pick up something else, but will end up switching back. But if I start with the Schroeder, I end up sticking with it. Dreaming up my 2nd build now!
