Tommy,
Your top is on the UPS truck and out for delivery... I will post pics tonight. If you didn't get the message on the limba/bandsaw issue. I will be receiving the bandsaw next week so I will not have the back wood cut for a few days. I will likely get your top joined this weekend.

Tommy here is your top wood. This is the bad camera but the piece of flame is sweet!! I like how the falme fans out to a "Chevron" toward the bottom! Very nice piece of wood. This will look SO nice carved.

Congrats Tommy...it has begun!!!

What pick-ups are you using?

imported_WHY_U_TRY
09-02-2005, 04:06 AM
Thanks for the kind words...I wasn't going to talk much about my guitar until the process really started but I figured I'd get some conversation going with some of the things I was doing different with mine (i.e. knobs, string-through etc) I'm glad I have people looking forward to seeing my guitar as much as I am !!! :D

Congrats Tommy...it has begun!!!

What pick-ups are you using?

I haven't decided yet but I'll probably end up going with this combo...honestly I've never heard a difference in those "bountique" pick-ups compared to the a good Seymour Duncan etc. Aftering listening to EVERY pickup on the Seymour Duncan website, I decided to go with the Duncan Distortion in the bridge and the Jazz Model in the neck...I would like to hear opinions about that pick-up config...just what you think the pros and cons of it but it's probably what I'll go with for now :D

imported_vangit
09-02-2005, 05:34 PM
Hey Tommy,
Can you explain what you get out of direct mounting the pick-ups? I know EVH does it, but I'm not sure what it does to tone?

Hey Tommy,
Can you explain what you get out of direct mounting the pick-ups? I know EVH does it, but I'm not sure what it does to tone?

well I'm sure this is up for discussion and there will be many opinions on it...but I do it because I like the thought that the pick-ups might pickup some of the vibrations off the wood much better being directly bolted to it rather than being bolted onto something then that being bolted to the wood....and I like the flush look of it as well...I'm sure their are many arguments for both sides of it. If I read something that tells me that it's not good and it makes logical sense, then I'll get some brazilian rosewood pick-up rings to have the pick-ups mounted on :D

Tommy,
Just as with John's I had a chance to dimension your neck today, cut the headstock face, and glue on the "ears." I noticed after I planed your neck that you will actually have some flame in your Braz neck! So I oriented your neck so that will show up in the headstock. It looks VERY cool. Pics to come (likely tomorrow).

Tommy, did you catch the lick at around 1:30? That is one that you showed me in your apartment in January. Quite a bit sloppier than you and slightly modified. :D Thought i would throw it in there for you! Thanks man.

Haha yes I heard that when I listened to it the first time and thought that sounded very familiar ! Then I remember you doing it again right after changing the PUPS...I was thinking "wow he must really like that lick...there must be something important about it" and now I know the importance :D ! Thanks Jason !

Here are the knobs we made/modified for Tommy. He was having trouble with them slipping while playing live so I made some countersinks all the way around the perimeter of each knob.

Diggin' the knob design...maybe that could be another standard Schroeder design feature?

I can't agree more. Although functional in intent, the aesthetics are greatly improved. Officially added to my wish list.

Well it will be offered as an option but not necessarily something I will do as a standard feature. It takes quite a bit of time to do the layout and drill the holes. Remember all of this stuff is done by hand.

Thanks for the comments guys. I am so happy that Tommy's guitar is improving with age!!!
