It is indeed a good album, I had it on lots when it first come out. Some great guitar tone on there too. Where the Killers ruin it all for me though is live..... there seems to be a lot of excited talk about what a great live band they are, particularly what a great 'showman' their frontman is (how that guy can be called a great showman, unless I'm missing something major, when the likes of Freddy Mercury existed is beyond me). I find them completely boring live personally.... the live sound is okay but apart from watching the singer walk back and forth a bit there's really not much there at all. The two times I've seen them live they looked either completely petrified or completely bored..... no crowd interaction, not so much as a word between songs. I've seen two other live performances on TV too, they looked exactly the same.
It's a decent album for sure.... but to me personally if a band can't cut it live then I lose interest real fast. I'm kinda getting the same way about the Kings of Leon... I love their records but their live shows put me off a little, although I would say they have a much better live sound overall than the Killers. Here's a tip for you, check out a Scottish band called Biffy Clyro, try the album Infinity Land. :)

Hey Quinny.
Never saw the Killers live, thanks for the review. Thanks for the Biffy Clyro tips, I'll try to check them out. Don't know if you are into them at all, but the new Kings X cd is going to be real good. I heard three songs, liked them alot. They have amazing energy live, not a visual show, but great energy between the band and the crowd.

Killers! That was my second favorite Maiden Album!! ;)
I really dig Smile Like You Mean It. That is a great song. Never seem them live though. I think they were on SNL once(?). They remind me a bit of bands in the 80s like Gene Loves Gezebel. Very flowy and melodic. I find myself really wanting them to crank up the guitars though! Replace those thick analog synth lines with a heavy guitar! That is just my taste. :)
Did you know they already have two TRIBUTE CDs?

Maiden! 8) My first gig when I was 9 years old! Saw them again recently and I was thinking 'wonder what they're like now, I much prefer their earlier stuff'.... lo and behold Bruce announces that they'd only be playing material off the first 4 albums!! Absolutely class. What a great show it was too.
Crazy that the Killers have tribute albums already, ha. Those guys sure have gone places with their first album, fair play to them.
