A little update. Half of Clear Cut (me and Mark, lead singer) will be performing an acoustic gig at the Turtle Bay Cafe at the Sundial Bridge in Redding CA on Friday September 23. It is on the far side of the Bridge in this photo. It is Redding's latest and most awe-inspiring monument. It is a fantastic time to play here. And usually it is 100+ depgrees so we are very happy to play it in mild temperatures!

Hopefully Elizabeth remembers the digital camera and can even take some video!! I will be playing a lot of piano of all things.

We are very happy to announce that we are going to play a gig with 3/4 of Clear Cut on October 22 to benefit Katrina victims. This will be held at Shasta College in Redding CA. As of right now, I am told we will be headlining the show and playing to raise as much money as we possibly can. All proceeds of the show will go to Red Cross for them to distribute as needed.

We had a blast playing the other night. It was just myself and Mark, my lead singer. Oh and my son Andy was my roadie!! I played a lot of piano and I had really cool tones out of my acoustic rig. I used my trusty Martin 00028EC (Eric Clapton model) and miked it with a Rode NT-1A from about 12" from the soundhole, then I used a drop-in Bill Lawrence magnetic pickup that I ran into my Johnson Millennium. I blended these two throughout the night depending on what tone I was going for. I would hit a touch of distortion on the hot rodded Marshall setting during solos to beef up the tone a bit or if we were playing something a little heavier. It sounded amazing! I used the Twin Reverb setting for cleaner stuff. I have some clips that I will post when I get a chance. I tried this after watching the demos for the Taylor T-5 where they were playing it through a Marshall stack!! Mark was really fired up about it too. It gave us options to play so many other songs that otherwise have sounded a bit dead. The cool thing was that you could still hear the woody/percussive sound of the Martin miked throught the PA so that the rhythm was there. I did not run the amp through the PA so that it was more subtle. I can't wait to play another acoustic gig with this setup.

I played the Chopper on a couple songs but mostly it just looked cool in my guitar rack!!! I brought the P-bass, Chopper and the Martin. I also used my Kurzweil for the piano songs. Mark silenced the crowd with "Raining in Baltimore" by the Counting Crows. I actually got goosebumps listening to him while I was playing! I looked out and everyone was stoppped and listening intently. Very cool.

Anyway, here are Elizabeth and I with the Chopper after packing up:

Stu-
I think Jason misunderstood...
:D

The first picture he posted was taken last summer sometime around July 4th (the grand opening of the Sundial Bridge). Last Friday was kind of chilly, so the crowed thinned a little toward the end of the night. It was really neat though. I know that everyone I spoke with that night had a great time and really enjoyed watching the boys at work. Jason wasn't kidding about the Counting Crows song (Raining in Baltimore). The whole crowd sat there in silence with their mouths hanging open. I absolutely love that song, and they did an amazing job on it.
Maybe some video later.....??

I didn't think it was an actual pic of the gig (Jason told me his blimp is in the shop :D )
I just thought the whole scene with the crowd at the bridge is a very cool spot for a show.
