I finally got my amp put back together so I can play test your guitars as they are completed. I had played a Fender '65 Twin Reverb RI for years and it was not functioning well, was vibrating like crazy, and had a blown speakers as it turns out. So I ordered a couple of cabinets from Robert Cray's former amp tech: Zack@Vibroworld http://www.vibroworld.com/ and I could not be more pleased. I had him make two cabinets for me, first a head cabinet for the chassis and reverb unit of the 65 Twin and then a separate Bassman cabinet with 2- 12" Celestion G12H speakers. Man does this amp smoke. So sparkly and clean and then sounds absolutely killer with the trusty Mesa Boogie V-Twin pedal out in front of it for distortion. Sound clips to come.

The other thing I did that is probably against the rules of the Twin is I had it covered in tweed with oxblood grille cloth. But I absolutely love the way it looks too! Here is a pic.

The next cabinet I get will be a 2-12 cabinet from Don "Shovelhead" DiMasi that is open back and I will likely put Celestion Vintage 30s in that one. I really want to have the option of being able to have that focused tight closed back sound with the Bassman or the more open and broken up open back sound. I am also planning on getting a 50W Marshall Plexi head and a Vox AC30 head that I can switch using these cabinets. I think would just about cover all the tones I really love!

You're probably right, the purists will despise it. Me? I like it! In fact, I have been debating whether or not to do something very similar to my Twin for a few years now. Lugging the full combo when I was in my teens and 20's was rough enough on my back (I know, would I like some cheese with that whine?). Now it's almost foolish, but those cleans...like no other amp I've played through. And with your V-Twin out front/plenty'o'bite!!

I know, i heard you playing them at the Jam last year Mike. Very nice! It would be cool to try them. Maybe I could bring the Twin reverb head to the Jam in February and try it through your cab?

I keep threatening to do something like that. get a twin into a head,, or maybe pickup a used bandmaster or something and have it tweaked.

Is that a reissue twin Jason? Those are great. I had one for awhile.
[Edit: Duh...you said that. LOL]

My Rockytop JTM45 Clone is covering my clean tones for the moment, but I sure wouldn't mind some more headroom.

Ya, its a RI (about a 2002). Talk about headroom! It seriously hurts my ears at about 3!!

HEY!! Great minds think alike....and so do we every once in a while. LOL!!

This started out as a 2X12 combo. Here is what it looks like now.
