here is a song I wrote and recorded with the Les Paul so when I got the tour guitar I rerecorded all the guitar parts again with it...the Les Paul is a '94 Gibby Les Paul Classic Premium Plus with a 500T and 490T I think and obviously the Tour Guitar specs are all over this board 8)

The rig was a Peavey Classic 50 head with a Marshall 1960B cab and close miced with a SM57...straight forward pop/punk song with no effects..you'll see I use layering as my effect 8)

I'm going to a photoshot today in Manhattan and I'm going ot be taking the tour guitar with me as well as my LP so there will be some really nice professional pictures of the guitar in a photoshot session

Very cool clips, I really like the song a lot, and Im not just saying that to be nice. I really do think that your band has some serious potential, and that song is just another example of why!

Getting to the guitar, Its very interesting to hear both the Les Paul and the Tour Guitar side byside, through the same rig, playing the exact same song. Theres not real any true judge of whether or not someones going to really like a guitar until you put it in their hands, but youve pretty much made it as realistic as possible without doing so on the internet with those clips.

Just my comments, considering that WCR pickups will be giong into my Schroeder. I mean nothing against the sound of your Paul, but I really do prefer the sound of the Tour guitar here. I will have a similar set in my guitar (Darkburst Neck, Goodwood Bridge) and to me, while a Les Paul has a certain mystique about it, theres something about the sound coming though the WCR pickups that just grabs me every single time I hear it. The fullness of every chord is simply incredible. Articulation of every note can be heard, and everything just blossoms beautifully. Now, this is not to say that a Les Paul doesnt have a certain mystique to it, because when push comes to shove, theres just nothing that replaces a les paul. So in the end, what im getting at is, I love the sound of the WCR pickups in the Schroeder, but thats just whats right for me. And thats the beauty of getting a custom guitar, we can all get whatever we want.

And once again, the song, Les Paul, Tour Guitar, EVERYTHING, sounds fantastic!

...Thanks for the clips and sorry for the little rant there!

good clips, I might add to it sometime, when I figure how to use my software properly.
its makes a good backing track.

I like the tour guitar a bit better too, sounds more full to me. I have a LPPP with the same pups, but I like my historics much better.

Oh Mklein, where in the windy city are you again? I'm going to be in chicago for the big orthopod meeting in 3 wk march. Maybe I'll have a tour guitar with me??

the Les Paul is a '94 Gibby Les Paul Classic Premium Plus with a 500T and 490T

I owned a 1993 LPCPP and it was without a doubt the finest LP I have ever owned or played. I have owned a bunch of LPs over the years, but the ones made in 1993 and 1994 are special instruments. I have played 4 from this era and all of them smoked. The top on mine was amazing. Killer guitars, it doesn't surprise me at all that you are using one professionally.

Tommy,

Very cool that you took the time to do this. Thanks so much! One of the things that jumps to mind in listening to those two tracks is something that I do when I record layered tracks like this. I often use two different guitars with different tones and double or triple them to get more dimension in tone. I will often double my primary guitar tracks (recorded with my Schroeder Guitars with humbuckers) with a Strat and it makes things sound much fatter and more interesting because it is covering more frequencies rather than just duplicating the same tones from the same guitar. This is an age-old trick but it really works.

That said, it would be very interesting to me if you took the parts with the Tour guitar and mixed them with the Les Paul tracks. My experience is that it adds a complexity that you don't get when you use the same guitar for all tracks.

Very cool song and great tone on both. Thanks again Tommy.

Jason

thanks for all the comments on the song itself guys and glad I could help by posting this comparison...I'm going to be getting about 300-400 pictures from a photoshot of one of the bands I play with and I used the Tour Guitar for all the shots with a guitar so I'll post a lot of those when they are sent to me

Jason...the mixing of the two guitar parts has already been taken care of 8) I'm having another drummer come in and do the drums for real tommorow morning...those on the song were just a quick one take through I had some drummer that was in the studio when I was recording do them then I hacked it up where I was semi happy with it but honestly I'm not happy with it at all...I will be tommorow though

I totally agree with you that they are special, mine is a 93, a dealer friend of mine went to Nashville to pick out tops and specs as he was a top dealer. He asked me what I wanted and I told him, and I got this beauty. I do agree the pups are a bit hotter than the regular gibsons. I also asked for zebras, so stock zebras on LCPPP are very rare.

Will, very sweet Les Paul! I love your collection of guitars! Very nice! If you ever want to part with the 93 let me know.

Tommy, excellent song. Very catchy. I noticed the difference between the two and didn't like either more than the other. Except that the solo begining at the 2 minute mark did stand outr more with the Schroeder. I can't wait to hear it with both combined. Excellent!

thanks guys for the compliments...the solo @ the 2min area is actually the les paul on both of the tracks...I just eqed it differently in the schroeder file and also I bet the fact that it's the only LP on that track makes it stand out more...in the other one obviously everything is a LP so it might not jump out as much no matter how much it's EQed or mixed because it's mostly the same guitar doing all the parts, I did use one of my GIbby Elegants on this song at times when I needed a '57 classic pup
