Woodwork complete. I got the neck carve done today and it is about ready for stain! This is one of my favorite parts of the build. This guitar is freakishly similar to Stu's Doublecut. Gorgeous Braz neck and huge billowy quilted top. This is sort of becoming a signature blend of options...

Wow that looks great. I can almost feel the Brazilian in my hands now. Color wise we are going for a modified Tigerburst I saw on a guitar in Thorn's gallery. Less brown and more orange. I think Jason is excited about the color as well. Here is a picture of the guitar in question.

Now I'm jealous. A classic example of some of Ron's finest works. Hopefully some day someone will say the same about my guitar when refering to Jason's work.

Looks sweet Paul. What are your conrols?
The controls are 2 tone, 1 volume and a threeway toggle. The tones will be push/pull to split the hums which are 4 conductor WCR Darkbursts. Fairly basic nothing too crazy but should give some good flexibility to the guitar.

Here is step one of Paul's stain... Triple stained and ready for clear coat, then I will do a light sunburst in faint orange. The yellow highlights of the top will really pop when this is hit with clear. There is literally no finish on the top right now. The stain was still damp when this photo was taken. It goes to a VERY dull and pale yellow brown at this point when it dries. A nice start though!

Thanks Paul! I really like that base color. I MIGHT go over the whole thing with a really weak yellow to accentuate that color in the highlights. We'll see how you like it after the burst. But overall, the top is just stunning in person.
The back is just a really nice piece of korina (white limba). It will look really nice shaded.

Very cool indeed. I've never really understood the process of staining, sanding, sealing and whatever voodoo you do but they sure look purty when they're done. I would think the finishing of a custom guitar might be one of the more nerve racking moments. Trying to match the color to the client's mental image has got to be tough. Even emailed pcitures can look different on different monitors.

Here are a couple more pics of Paul's guitar with the shade coat on the back.It is not as dark as it appears in these pics which were taken right at dusk. When the light hits it, the back has hues that go from amber (like the center of the top) to a burnt orange color like the edges of the top. I am going to invest in a better digital camera someday. Right now, wood is a higher priority!!

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas....which is sort of true in this case since the guitar may be here by then. I'm curious to see how the back turned out and get a look at Jason's special wood cavity and trem cover work. As for Elizabeth's wet sanding photo I must say it is the best wet sanding photo I have ever seen. It may also be the only wet sanding photo I have ever seen. Jason's bride seems to make guitar building look so much more glamorous than I imagine it really is in person. Keep up the great work guys and gal!!!

Great clips Jason. I finally got to check them out tonight. Gee blues and classic rock....either you made some notes when we talked music earlier in the year or the guitar already knows what it's future holds and channeled it to you. Seeing the Schroeders in action by their builder is always sweet and even more so when the guitar is your own. Thanks Jason.

My doublecut has arrived!!! I'm rather paranoid about having guitars out of their cases when they have been in a cold truck so I like to let them warm up slowly before taking them out or playing them. I did take a quick peek to make sure Fedex treated her nicely and she sure looks good. The rest of the night looks pretty tight but hopefully I can get some jam time tomorrow night while the kids are at dance class. For now my presence is being requested for another round of Rock band on the PS3. The kids seemed amazed I'd actually heard of Mississippi Queen before and I had the CD too. Rock Band and Guitar Heroe games are my one hope of getting them away from the Disney Channel music performers and cds.

I just posted some pictures my Schroeder Doublecut on TGP and realized there was one picture I have never posted. Jason sent me this picture to show me a special inlay he had done as a surprise for me. He wanted me to approve it before he actually inlayed it. None of the finished pictures of the guitar show the back and I haven't taken any yet but the mockup looks good enough to be the finished product so you'll get the idea.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h81/paulpuck68/DSC00637-1.jpg
Jason may have some finished pictures of the back that he hasn't posted but he may have been waiting for me to share it with the group since he did it as a remembrance of my Dad who died during the time this guitar was in production. Special touches from a special luthier are what sets a custom made guitar apart from the rest. Thanks Jason.
